Importance of Attic Ventilation Balance

By |2020-06-02T13:38:11-04:00October 23rd, 2011|Home Ownership|

Most people understand that a properly vented attic extends the life of the roof by preventing sheathing from warping while also lowering utility bills. So it’s no surprise that people install a ridge vent on their roof and think that they’ve properly addressed the venting needs for their home. [...]

Timing is everything, or is it?

Some investors try to time the stock market fluctuations. Buying and selling stock in an attempt to maximize their return. Often these investors guess wrong and end up with a lessor return then if they had left their investments alone. Looking at the big picture long term, approaching your investing with a business as usual approach is generally the safer and wisest course to follow. [...]

Salesman or Consultant?

By |2021-04-21T15:15:53-04:00October 2nd, 2011|Building a New Home|

We have all been turned off by a pushy Salesman who cares more about making the sale than meeting our needs. The one size fits all approach that is used by too many people in sales does not take into consideration your unique desires and needs. Typically they do not take time to listen to what the customer really wants and often jump to conclusions on what is best for them.

Is the dining area a comfortable size for the table and chairs (and hutch, if you have one)? Is it close to the kitchen, reducing steps when carrying hot dishes, or clearing the table? Can the space be closed off for privacy? Does your dining space flow openly into an adjacent space for additional seating? [...]

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service

You sometimes see that sign in restaurants. While I ‘ve never viewed the sign in a home, there are some who do not want shoes worn in their home. They do not want the wear and tear on the flooring and dirt brought in to the house. That typically means shoes piled up near the door. It can be unsightly and some resort to storing shoes in the garage. The shoes can be cold in the winter and you never know what may crawl in them. [...]

Built-in Data Center

By |2020-12-07T11:54:13-05:00August 29th, 2011|New Home Features|

I know how a parent wants to keep an eye on their children while they are on the computer these days. There is a perfect solution to this problem, a “Data Center” right in the kitchen. I did this for a client who loved to cook, but at the same time wanted a solution to keeping on eye on her child while he was on the computer. We took a wall on the kitchen and added a desk, phone line and computer line. We also added a top cabinet for storage of lap top, mail, paper, or supplies. My client was so excited about the fact that her child would remain within eyesight while she could prepare the family dinner.
